Police have arrested two drug peddlers with 80,360 pieces of yaba hidden in a jeep in Chaumuhani, Begumganj, Noakhali. A jeep used for transporting yaba has been seized. The estimated market value of the recovered yaba is around 2.5 crore taka.
They were arrested in a raid conducted in the Rupsha Shopping Complex in Karimpur area of Chaumuhani Municipality of the upazila early on Thursday (July 16).
The arrested persons are Md. Parvez (42), son of the deceased Mozaffar Ahmed Sikder of Itmuni Hetalia Para, Purba Boro Behula Union, Chakaria Upazila, Cox’s Bazar, and Md. Biplob (48), son of Sheikh Chan Mia of the same village.
Police said that based on a tip-off, a raid was conducted in front of the Rupsha Shopping Complex in the Karimpur area of Chowmuhani Municipality in the early morning. During this, a search was conducted in the black hard jeep used by the accused and the yaba pills were recovered from a specially hidden position in the rear right door. These yaba pills were kept in 196 blue zippered poly bags among 41 paper packets wrapped in white scotch tape.
Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) NM Nasiruddin confirmed the incident and said that a case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act in this incident. They will be arrested in that case and handed over to the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. There are nine cases against drug dealer Parvez in different police stations.
