Bhola District Correspondent:
Former students, teachers and members of the local conscious community have expressed enthusiasm over the government’s initiative to nationalize Hafiz Ibrahim College, a renowned educational institution in Borhanuddin Upazila of Bhola. Welcoming the initiative as the fulfillment of a long-standing expectation, they have thanked the government for taking steps to bring the institution under the nationalization process.
Hafiz Ibrahim, Member of Parliament from Bhola-2 constituency, founded the college. Since its establishment, the institution has been playing an important role in expanding education in the southern region of the country. In addition to higher education, the college has earned a reputation for the success of its students in various competitive examinations.
Many former students of the college are currently serving in different cadres of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), including the Administration Cadre. Others are working as university teachers, in the banking sector, and as teachers in schools and colleges across the country, as well as in various other important professions. According to concerned individuals, the institution has made significant contributions to the expansion of education and human resource development at the local level.
With a consistent record of academic success, Hafiz Ibrahim College has been included several times among the top-performing colleges under the Barisal Education Board. However, according to concerned sources, the institution was deprived of government development support and patronage for nearly 15 years due to the prevailing political circumstances. Since 2024, the institution has reportedly begun to regain its former reputation and momentum.
The government’s recent initiative to nationalize the college has created new hope among students, teachers, guardians and local residents. They expect that once the nationalization process is completed, the institution’s infrastructure, educational environment and academic activities will become more developed and dynamic.
The acting Principal of the college, Md. Zakaria Azam, said, “Since its establishment, Hafiz Ibrahim College has played an important role in creating opportunities for higher education and improving the quality of education in this region. The initiative to nationalize the college is extremely encouraging and promising news for us. We sincerely welcome the government’s initiative. We hope that once the nationalization is implemented, the institution’s educational activities will expand further and students will have access to better opportunities and facilities.
Former student of the college and Lecturer at Shambhupur Shah Alam Model College, Md. Riaz Uddin, said, “Hafiz Ibrahim College is not merely an educational institution for us; it is deeply connected with the dreams and memories of our generation. Many students of this college are now serving the country in important positions, including the BCS Administration and other cadres, university teaching, banking, schools and colleges, and various other professions. The initiative to nationalize the college is a matter of great joy for us as former students. We sincerely thank the government for taking steps to bring the institution under state patronage after such a long period. We hope that once the nationalization is completed, Hafiz Ibrahim College will spread the light of education on an even larger scale in the future.
According to members of the local conscious community, the long-term development of an educational institution depends not only on infrastructure but also on a combination of qualified teachers, quality education, student facilities and government patronage. They expect that the nationalization of Hafiz Ibrahim College will open up new opportunities in these areas.
They also called for the nationalization process to be completed promptly so that the institution’s heritage, reputation and continuity of quality education can be further strengthened.
