A view-sharing and discussion meeting was held at the initiative of the newly formed School Managing Committee of 2026 to improve the quality of education, establish good governance and involve the local people in solving various long-standing problems of the traditional Charbhairavi High School of Charbhairavi Union No. 6 of Haimchar Upazila of Chandpur.

In the meeting held under the chairmanship of the acting headmaster of the school, Sankar Chandra, teachers, guardians, public representatives, political leaders, education enthusiasts, journalists and local dignitaries discussed in detail the overall development of the school, infrastructure expansion, teachers’ arrears, property management and future development plans.

The teachers said that the salaries and allowances of the school’s teachers have been arrears of about 25 lakh taka for a long time. The current Managing Committee was called upon to take effective initiatives to pay these arrears quickly. The speakers said that if the fair payment of teachers’ dues is ensured on time, the educational environment will be further improved and the teachers will be able to perform their duties with more enthusiasm.
According to some former committee members present at the meeting, in the past, local people and public representatives were not properly involved in making various important decisions of the school. They claimed that since many previous committees were run on a limited scale, the common people did not get the opportunity to be informed about the various developmental activities of the school. However, the statement of the other party concerned was not available on this issue.
Local public representatives and conscious citizens said that although a land was purchased with the school’s money in the past, it is located far away from the school. As a result, the land cannot be used effectively for the education and infrastructural development of the school. They alleged that the land is not yet under the direct control and practical scope of the school. They demanded that the Education Department and the concerned administration take necessary steps to protect the interests of the school by reviewing the matter legally.
The teachers also said that although the property was purchased with the school’s money, that property is not currently benefiting the actual development of the school or the students. The public demanded that the school property should be quickly brought under the possession and use of the school by following the legal process and used for educational development.
The issue of the school’s infrastructural limitations also gained importance in the discussion. The speakers said that the school does not have a quality playground. In addition, there is no hostel for students coming from far and wide. As a result, the students’ education and co-curricular activities are being disrupted. Representatives of civil society opined that, if legally possible, it is necessary to take initiatives to acquire or purchase land in a more suitable place for the school, expand the playground, construct new academic buildings and create a modern educational environment.
The speakers also said that the development of an educational institution is not limited to building construction; rather, the long-term success of an institution depends on transparency, accountability, participatory decision-making, sound management of resources and conducting administrative activities in accordance with the policies of the Ministry of Education. Therefore, emphasis was placed on ensuring the involvement of local people, guardians and relevant stakeholders in every financial and administrative decision of the school.
At the meeting, the teachers, guardians and conscious people present urged Mazharul Islam Shafiq Patwary, the current president of the school managing committee and general secretary of Haimchar Upazila BNP, to take effective initiatives to pay the teachers’ arrears of about 2.5 million taka, settle the school’s property-related issues legally, and take necessary steps in coordination with the education department, upazila administration and concerned authorities to implement overall development activities.
The meeting was attended by Charbhairabi Union Parishad Chairman Yusuf Zubair Shimul Chowkder, former chairman Harunur Rashid Bhutto Munshi, Charbhairabi Union BNP President Mahbub Alam Jitu Howlader, Vice-Presidents Badal Bakaul and AKM Mizanur Rahman Pradhaniya, General Secretary Anwar Hossain Bhutto Kazi, Senior Joint General Secretary GM Mohiuddin, Upazila BNP Joint General Secretaries Salahuddin Howlader and Akhter Howlader, Haimchar Upazila Fishermen’s Party President Rezaul Karim Bepari, former headmaster of the school Mofizur Rahman Babul, Charbhairabi Union Jubo Dal President Didarul Islam Babu Bhuiyan, General Secretary Jasim Sarkar, Union Parishad members Parvez Howlader, Md. Dadan Mia Pradhaniya, Md. Monir Hossain Sardar, businessman and politician Md. Liton Paik, Educationist Nazrul Islam Fakir, Charbhairabi Union Jamaat Amir Hafez Md. Abdul Mannan Ukil, Secretary Ahmed Ali, local public representatives, teachers, journalists, educationists, guardians and prominent figures of the area. At the end of the meeting, all those present expressed optimism that through collective initiatives, transparent and accountable management, legal administrative steps and active participation of the local people, it will be possible to transform Charbhairabi High School into a modern, quality and education-friendly institution.
