Lalmohan Bhola:
A college student was hacked to death and two others were seriously injured in an alleged attack by a juvenile gang in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola yesterday. The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Khalil Nayan, 24, son of Salauddin of Ward No. 6 under Lalmohan Municipality. He was a first-year HSC student of Gazaria Dr Azhar Uddin Degree College.
The incident took place around 1:00pm in front of the residence of Selim Chairman in Ward No. 5 of the municipality. According to police and local sources, a group of youths, allegedly led by Abdullah Al Manik, 17, attacked Nayan and his companions with sharp weapons following a dispute.
Nayan sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. Two others—Arman, son of Md Ali Jinnah, and Ashraf, son of Abul Kalam Azad—were seriously injured while trying to save Nayan.
They were first taken to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex before being referred to a higher medical facility as their condition deteriorated.
Police said the prime suspect, Abdullah Al Manik, later surrendered to Lalmohan Police Station. Manik is the son of Md Alauddin of Fulbagicha area under Ward No. 4 of Lalmohan Union and is reportedly a Class X student of Lalmohan Abdul Wahab Secondary School.
The killing triggered panic in the area. Soon after the incident, Nayan’s friends and local residents blocked the Bhola–Char Fasson highway in front of the police station, demanding exemplary punishment for those responsible. They also set tyres on fire, disrupting traffic on the road for nearly an hour.
On receiving information, Additional Superintendent of Police (Lalmohan Circle) Satyajit Kumar Ghosh rushed to the spot and assured the protesters of a prompt investigation and legal action, after which they withdrew the blockade.
Talking to reporters, the police official said a clash had taken place near the sandy field beside Abdul Wahab Secondary School around 1:00pm.
