Meghna (Comilla): Police have arrested Sohag Khan, a fugitive convict sentenced to 7 years in prison in a drug case in the upazila.
Based on a secret information, Meghna Police Station conducted a raid in Bakshikanda village of Bhaorkhola union of the upazila last Friday night and arrested him.
Police sent him to court on Saturday morning. The court sent him to jail. The arrested person’s name is Md. Sohag Khan. He is the son of Shahab Uddin Khan of that village.
According to police sources, in a case under the Narcotics Control Act, the learned court sentenced Sohag Khan to seven years in prison and a fine of 10,000 taka, further imprisonment in default of payment. He has been in hiding since the verdict was announced. Later, when the court issued a warrant against him, Meghna Police Station started its activities. In view of this, he was apprehended from his residence on Friday night based on secret information.
Meghna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter and said that the convicted accused was arrested by conducting a special operation as per the court warrant. He was sent to jail this morning by the learned court. He further mentioned that the police’s eighty-six operation to arrest the accused under the warrant will continue to suppress crime and maintain law and order.
