The general meeting of the Society of National Media Commission and the new central committee for the term 2026-2028 have been announced amid a grand event in Uttara, the capital. The meeting was held at an elite restaurant in Uttara on Friday (May 15) at 2 pm.
After the general meeting, the organization’s chief advisor Shamsul Haque announced a new central committee with 41 members. AKM Azizul Haque was unanimously elected president and Md. Kalimullah Iqbal was elected general secretary. In addition, Kamal Khan was given the responsibility of organizing secretary.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Shamsul Haque said, “The new committee will have to work dedicatedly in the service of the country and the world in the coming days. The great vow of journalism cannot be bowed to any injustice.”
The speakers at the meeting emphasized the ethics of journalism, responsibility and the role of media workers in social reform. They expressed their determination to further brighten the image of the organization by presenting objective news.
The event was addressed by journalist Abdul Wahab Rinku, outgoing general secretary Monir Hossain Chowdhury, Mosleh Uddin Bachchu, poet and writer Abul Khair, Ismail Hossain, advocate Manik, HM Mahfuzul and Roman Sheikh, among others.
After the announcement of the new committee, the members present greeted the newly elected leaders with flowers and took an oath to make the organization’s activities more dynamic and people-oriented.
